Next-X History:
In order to save the world population from a terrible outbreak of the Legacy Virus, Jean used the Phoenix Force to co-mingle with the billions of souls on the planet. She then used that same cosmic power to overshadow the disease, and completely shut down the X-Factor gene that the virus fed on. As a result, the virus went into remission for those infected, but at the same time, anyone who was gen-active or exhibiting mutant powers, lost the use of those abilities. This in turn resulted in a near-absence of a mutant presence on the earth. However, anyone one NOT affected by the virus maintained their powers, and it only now, nearly ten years later, that the next generation of mutants is entering the world.
